My husband recently attended a Zulu party in KwaZulu-Natal where we live. He took these photos which show the joy of the people as they celebrate a 21st birthday and engagement. (Photos : BWP Pieterse)

Ardmore Ceramic Art
Ardmore is situated in the Caversham Valley, KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, and is the home of beautiful ceramic art. The area around Ardmore is picture book perfect and the ideal place for a studio.
I was very excited about visiting as I have been an admirer of Ardmore creations for a long time. Ardmore have exhibited their work all over the world and, I believe, both Queen Elizabeth and Nelson Mandela own Ardmore pieces.
The work has drama and tells a story, making the pieces like a ceramic book. The colours are strong and lovely. Nature dominates at Ardmore, there are monkeys and lions and butterflies and flowers ……… the list and combinations are endless.
After spending some time browsing, I couldn’t resist buying a small dish, decorated with zebra. It is safely displayed in a glass cabinet at home and gives me such pleasure.
We finished off our outing by having lunch at Caversham Mill where the food matched the fabulous setting. A great day out in the country!
Breakers, Umhlanga
Umhlanga is a beautiful place on the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. On our recent visit there we stayed at Breakers, a well maintained and attractive resort, overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Our accommodation was excellent. We slept in a large comfortable bed made up with crisp white linen. There was a well appointed kitchenette, a lounging and dining area and, to top it all, an overwhelmingly magnificent view of the sea.
It’s easy to relax in beautiful surroundings.
Sunrise, Sunset
The most beautiful and dramatic time of the day is sunrise or sunset. Coastal sunrises and sunsets have the most impact as the sea reflects the stunning colours of the sky.
There are spectacular sunrises on the East Coast of Kwazulu-Natal and amazing sunsets over the West Coast of Africa.
The cold Welsh countryside also has a special magic as day changes into night.
Beauty and magic, all encompassed in the colour palette of the sky.
